The Cost of Missing Movement Education & Injury Prevention

The goal for PLAYTIME — Proprioceptive Learning Activities for Youth — is to teach body awareness. In other words, to learn to move.

  • To understand what may be wrong with our bodies, it is necessary to have a foundation for what is correct.
  • Movement education benefits adults and children alike.
Studies prove that targeting children and adolescents is a great entry point to learning correct movement and promote fitness for life. But it is never too late for movement education.
  • All ages, fitness interests, and levels of fitness are welcome. This is foundational for all!

Why Injury Prevention?

There is currently no known preventative system for musculoskeletal health.

Instinctively, we judge our health as our ability to move around.

We accept our increasing inability to move as ‘old-age’ or ‘degeneration.’ It is not until mobility is painful or slowing to the point of interfering with our daily function or “that specific thing” that we seek help. And let’s be honest, that help is expensive. Health care costs for orthopedic health management are in the billions.

  • Back pain associated costs in the US alone in 2021 were over $100 billion.
  • Steady declines in activity specifically in today’s youth have diminished their health and even their life expectancy: Incidence of Newly Diagnosed Diabetes | Diabetes | CDC for childhood diabetes alone.

Today, organized play is the main way children stay active.

  • Without organized activity, obesity is on the rise and so are earlier musculoskeletal health issues.

Why not address some of these issues with early movement education and prevent a larger problem later?
